There is some really good news this month which we wanted to share with you.


Sharon Cullwick is the new NZPIF President

We are delighted to announce that Sharon Cullwick has been elected the new NZPIF President, replacing Terry le Grove.  Terry has been a very committed and hard working President for four years. Sharon  joined the NZPIF Executive Committee in 2016. She was a member of Auckland Property Investors' Association from 2002 to 2005 when she helped set up the New Investors Group and the coordinator of the Eastern Group. 

Sharon joined the Waikato Property Investors" Association in 2010 on her return from overseas, and served on the Executive Committee from 2013, being Vice President from 2016 until her departure to the Hawkes Bay. She joined HBPIA in 2016 and became Vice President.

Vital news for property investors

Bright Line Test now in force

It is likely to have passed by most people, however the Bright Line became law on 29 March. This means that anyone with an unconditional sales agreement for a rental property signed after 29 March 2018 will come under the restrictions of the Bright Line Test. If affected properties are sold within five years of being bought, then any increase in value will be treated as income and taxed at the owner's marginal tax rate.

While many people think that the Bright Line Test only affects rental property, it can actually affect home owners. Read more
 

Rental prices continue to rise

Just released March rental statistics show that New Zealand rental prices have continued to grow over the past year.

Overall, rental prices are up 6.1% to $433 per week. This is a higher price rise than the last two years when rental prices increased 3.4% in the year to March 2017 and 3% in the year to March 2016.  Read more

The winner will hold the NZ Property Investors' Federation/Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment Landlord of the Year Cup for one year and be given a framed citation as a permanent record. He or she will also receive a $1,000 cash prize, and $1,000 towards registration, flights and accommodation for one for the 2018 NZPIF Conference in Dunedin. The prize will be presented with the Cup and the citation at the Gala Dinner of the 2018 Conference

The Association of which the winner is a member will receive a cash prize.
