What is anti competitive behaviour? 

A letter from the Commerce Commission in August was a reminder to landlords that they are carrying out a business in trade and therefore subject to the Commerce Act. On 8 October, Andrew King, Sharon Cullwick and Jan Hains met with Katie Rusbatch, Head of Competition, and Barrie Sutton, Principal Investigator to clarify the situation. The purpose of the meeting was to explore and understand the role of the Commerce Commission and how the Commerce Act applies to the Federation, Associations, our members and the rental property industry. Here is a report of the meeting.

The Privacy Act is changing

On 1 December this year, the new Privacy Act will come into effect. Under the new law, the Privacy Commissioner will have more powers to enforce compliance, and there will be stiffer penalties for breaching some aspects of the Act.   Before the new law comes into effect, you should get up-to-speed with your obligations and your rights. Go to elearning.privacy.org.nz and sign up for "Privacy Act 2020." It's a short training module that gives an overview of the upcoming changes in less than 60 minutes.  Read more about the changes here
