Changes you need to know about this week

CHANGES TO THE RENTAL SECTOR ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK

 

Key points:
⦁ Residential property managers will be regulated to ensure they are registered, trained and licensed
⦁ Residential property manager complaints are to be dealt with through a new regulatory framework
⦁ The Government will consult with the public before making rules on meth residue levels in rentals
⦁ Landlords, Kāinga Ora, and Community Housing Providers have been given an extension to comply with healthy home standards
⦁ All private rentals must comply with healthy home standards by July 1, 2025

ALSO ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK

 Proposals for methamphetamine regulations which will apply to residential tenancies, which have today been released for public feedback.

The discussion document and a summary of the proposals can be found on the Ministry website https://consult.hud.govt.nz/policy-and-legislation-design/methamphetamine-regulations, together with information about how to provide comments on the proposals.

AN UPDATE FROM THE TENANCY COMPLIANCE AND INVESTIGATION TEAM (TCIT)

TCIT advises that they will start taking a harder stance on compliance with Section 22F of the RTA (Landlords must state amount of rent when advertising residential premises), specifically on the FOR RENT sign outside properties.
