Developer – Maurice Clark from McKee Fehl Constructors Ltd |
With his strong history in construction engineering solutions and a skill in re-purposing existing building structure, he has enabled a large number of Wellington’s structurally vulnerable building stock to be retained and given a new lease on life. Following on from successes with the Old Government Buildings and the Hunter Building, Maurice has led a number of successful heritage and seismic upgrades around Wellington including, 50-64 Customhouse Quay, Wellington Museum and 15 Stout St, home to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. In addition Maurice has converted numerous empty office buildings, which were surplus to the Wellington commercial market, to student hostels for Victoria University.
With the completion of seismic strengthening and repurposing work of the Heritage category 1 Public Trust Building, Maurice Clark, was awarded the “Ath Cup” by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects in memory of Ian Athfield. This award recognises a non-architect for outstanding achievement across all fields of architecture, building and design. Maurice has been recognised as giving a significant commitment and contribution to the Architectural landscape of Wellington.
