Cutting red tape

Are you tired of loopy rules?  Now every property owner has an opportunity to improve property related rules and regulations.  The Rules Reduction Taskforce has recently been appointed by the Minister of Local Government and they do want to hear about all the rules which get in the way of good ideas.

To make it easy for people there is a form online through which people can lodge individual submissions on the rules and regulations that they find frustrating and suggest how these can be improved.  The submission form can be found at www.govt.nz/rulesreduction and submissions close on 1 June 2015.  There is also provision for an organisation to make a conventional written submission to the Rules Reduction Taskforce Secretariat and these must be received by 1 May 2015.

The first public meeting was held on March 9 in Southland.  You can read all about this and more here.  They are using Facebook to help New Zealanders have conversations about rules and regulations which should be improved but these do not replace the formal submission process.  A list of all the scheduled public meetings between March and May can be found here. The first two are in Wellington on March 20 at the Wellington City Council Committee Room 1, 101 Wakefield Street, Wellington 3.00pm – 5.00pm and the second at Papatoetoe Sports Centre, 12 Sutton Crescent, Papatoetoe on 21 March 10.00am – 12.00pm.

Make the most of this opportunity to have your say and initiate the changes you feel are important.
